Performing an In-Service Demonstration For The First Time
G’day, my name is Oscar and I am Qlicksmart’s Sales and Marketing Assistant. Last month, our international Business Consultant, Mr Mel Reynolds and I went to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital to work with the theatre nurses and provide an in-service demonstration of the Qlicksmart’s sterile scalpel blade removers.
As it was the first time I had performed an in-service demonstration, there were many things about hospitals, theatre, and nursing life that I learned. Seeing nurses wheel heavy machinery around, hearing stories about visits to other hospitals from Mel, and putting scrubs on are were all notable experiences. Keeping all of my hair in a scrub cap however, turned out to be the biggest challenge of the day…
Listening to the theatre nurses giving feedback about the products was really informative, and we will be taking all notes back to the Qlicksmart R&D team. Many of the nurses highlighted issues to us, like the importance of quality and continuous training. Other nurses surprised us, saying that they never really think about their own safety, only their patients’. These conversations often lead to some nurses talking about how staff safety could improve in the operating theatre.
Conversation and laughter bounced throughout the theatre hallways for hours, and a constant flow of theatre staff approached enthusiastically. It was so great to see such energy, with everyone engaging, sharing their experiences, and learning from each other.
By the end of the day, Mel and I removed over 50 scalpel blades in total and met with dozens of nurses. After this exciting and immersive experience, I will be the first to stand up for the opportunity to collaborate with healthcare staff in the future.
At Qlicksmart, our goal is to nurture a culture of safety and staff advocacy. If you think that your clinic or hospital would benefit from an in-service demonstration or sharps safety talk from the Qlicksmart team, please feel free to get in contact with us!
